Characteristics - A perennial herb with thick spreading tuberous roots with a very pungent odour. Long history as domestic spice as well as as a remedy.
Properties & benefits - Particularly popular for digestive conditions. Warming action also makes it a useful addition to massage oils for use before or after exercise or for muscular aches and pains.
Blends well with - cedarwood, frankincense, lemon, lime, orange, patchouli, sandalwood
Cautions - Non-toxic, but may cause sensitisation in some individuals.
General Methods of Use of Essential Oils -
Inhalation - 1-2 drops on a tissue or 3-4 drops in a bowl of warm water. (this method not to be used for asthmatics) Baths - 5-6 drops in a full drawn bath. Mix well just before getting in. Massage - add 2-3 drops to every 10ml of carrier oil
