Characteristics - A small evergreen tree with oval leaves, thorns and very fragrant flowers. The fruit is widely used in cooking and is veru nutritious. It was used on English ships at sea to prevent scurvy. The value of lemons was receognised in the middle ages.
Properties & benefits - Refreshing and cooling. Useful for stress and agitation. Studies have shown it improves the ability to concentrate. Lifts the spirits and relievses mental fatigue. Helpful to the digestive system, and is tinic to the circulatory system. Astringent action makes it useful for oily skin.
Blends well with - chamomile, eucalyptus, fennel, geranium, lavender, sandalwood and other citrus oils
Cautions - Phototoxic - avoid using on skin before sun exposure. May cause skin irritation in some individuals.
General Methods of Use of Essential Oils - Inhalation - 1-2 drops on a tissue or 3-4 drops in a bowl of warm water. (this method not to be used for asthmatics) Baths - 5-6 drops in a full drawn bath. Mix well just before getting in. Massage - add 2-3 drops to every 10ml of carrier oil
