Characteristics - A tall herb with feathery leaves and yellow flowers. It has an ancient reputation of conveying longevity courage and strength. Regarded as an appetite supressant and widely used for digestive complaints.
Properties & benefits - In chinese medicine the main qualities of fennel are warming and drying, invigorating the diestive system, and helpful in detoxification. Useful in regulating reproductive function.
Blends well with - geranium, lavender, sandalwood
Cautions - Although generally regarded as safe, may cause skin irritation in some individuals. Not recommended during pregnancy. Should be differentiated from the bitter fennel which is toxic and should not be used.
General Methods of Use of Essential Oils - Inhalation - 1-2 drops on a tissue or 3-4 drops in a bowl of warm water. (this method not to be used for asthmatics) Baths - 5-6 drops in a full drawn bath. Mix well just before getting in. Massage - add 2-3 drops to every 10ml of carrier oil
